Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez has announced that Al-Nasr midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo has been invited to the national team for the 2024 European Championship qualifying matches.
“Ronaldo is a very determined player. He can bring experience and is a very important figure for the team.
I don’t care about age,” says journalist Fabrizio Romano, quoting Martinez’s words on his social networks.
Portugal will play Liechtenstein on 23 March and Luxembourg on 26 March. In addition to these teams in the qualifying group, which became the 2016 European champions, there are teams from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland and Slovakia.
Recall that the famous Portuguese lost his place in the team’s starting line-up in the last matches of the national team at the World Cup in Qatar.
On 10 December, Portugal’s national team lost 0:1 to Morocco in the quarter-final match of the World Cup held in Qatar. Ronaldo started this game on the bench. The midfielder took the field only in the 51st minute and did not make his mark with effective moves. Ronaldo also remained on the bench in the 1/8 final match against Switzerland.
It was previously reported that ‘Zenith’ goalkeeper in winter could be Ronaldo’s teammate.
