The amputations of 2006 Olympic champion Roman Kostomarov in ice dancing turned out to be more difficult than previously reported, writes MK.ru with reference to a source at a medical institution.
“Today, Roman was put on a ventilator again, and after it turned out he was able to breathe on his own, they literally shut him down for a few hours. His second hand is now darkening, doctors are still waiting to see whether to amputate or not, ”the source said.
Another source at the hospital also reported the operations performed by the athlete.
“First both feet of Kostomarov were amputated, then the lower legs of both legs. His whole hand was also cut off,” he said.
He also said that the athlete experienced a strong emotional breakdown, and his psychological state often changed.
It became known on January 10 that Roman Kostomarov was hospitalized. It was stated that he was taken to the intensive care unit due to pneumonia and was dependent on artificial lung ventilation, and his condition was reported to be extremely serious.
