Shamil Tarpischev, President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF), appreciated the decision of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) to punish Russian Anastasia Potapova for entering the court in a Spartak soccer jersey at a tournament at Indian Wells (USA).
“This is a crest, not a flag, it’s a football club. I haven’t heard that you can’t go out in a club jersey. But since WTA doesn’t like it, wear a different jersey next time. No problem, ”Tarpishchev quotes. TASS.
On March 12, Potapova entered the third round match of the American Indian Wells tournament against Pegula in a Spartak T-shirt. Later, WTA issued a warning to the Russian woman.
Potapova’s appearance in Spartak’s jersey in a match against American Jessica Pegula at a tournament at Indian Wells caused discontent among fans and Polish journalists. The Russian player was defeated by the scores of 6:3, 4:6, 5:7 and withdrew from the draw. Pegula lost to Czech tennis player Petra Kvitova in the fourth round.
He did not stay away from the incident with Potapova and the world’s first racket, Iga Sventek. He complained about the behavior of the Russian woman, and then, WTA decided to ban the jerseys of Russian clubs.
