Olympic champion in women’s singles, Adelina Sotnikova, in an interview YouTube channel Tatarka FM I remembered the story of my first photo with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Then I asked Vitaly Leontievich Mutko to take a picture of me with Putin. He takes pictures and I look – it came out blurry. I say: again it did not work.
And then Vladimir Vladimirovich said: who are you? I say: I am a skater. He: what, future Olympic champion? I said yes.
And then I think, what did I say? He will have to work. I forgot, later at the Olympics everyone reminded me that I said that. Even the newspaper wrote: “Sotnikova promised Vladimir Vladimirovich to win the Olympics,” Sotnikova said.
Adelina Sotnikova became the first Russian figure skater to win an Olympic gold medal in women’s singles. She surpassed Korean Kim Yong Ah and Italian Carolina Costner in 2014.
The Russian woman also has two silver medals at the 2013 and 2014 European Championships. In March 2020, Sotnikova announced her retirement from her professional career.
It was previously reported that IOC responds to UK call to ban Russians from Olympic Games in Paris.
