Russian mixed style fighter Eduard Vartanyan spoke about the future of heavyweight Alexander Volkov after defeating Moldovan representative Alexander Romanov. According to Vartanyan, Volkov, who turns 35 this year, is in his prime and has every chance to compete for the championship.

“Volkov did an excellent job and Nikita Krylov did an excellent job as well, they both finished in the first round. Volkov’s future? 35 is not a year for a heavyweight at all, even younger than John Jones. Romanov is even younger than Volkov, two years apart. Currently, Volkov is ranked eighth in the Heavyweight standings for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). His fight with Romanov took place as part of the UFC Fight Night 221 tournament in Las Vegas, Volkov won by technical knockout in the first round.
