Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, in an interview with Bild am Sonntag, called on Germany to speed up the delivery of ammunition to the Ukrainian army and train Ukrainian pilots on Western fighter jets.
Kuleba stressed that ammunition shortages were the “number one” problem in Ukraine’s efforts to repel the Russian invasion.
Ammunition deliveries
The head of Ukraine’s foreign ministry said German arms manufacturers promised him at the Munich security conference last month that they were ready to organize ammunition supplies, but were waiting for the government to sign contracts.
So the problem lies with the government
Kuleba concluded.
Defense of Bakhmut
He also explained that he did not expect Western allies to give fighter jets to Ukraine any time soon, but that Ukrainian pilots would still need to be trained so that they would be ready if this decision were made.
Separately, Kuleba announced that the Ukrainian army would continue to defend Bakhmut.
If we left there, what would that change? Russia would take Bakhmut and then continue its offensive on Tzasiv Yar, so that any city outside of Bakhmut could suffer the same fate
he noticed.
When asked how long Ukraine can hold out in the city, he declined to give a specific answer, comparing Ukrainian soldiers to people defending their home against an invader who is trying to kill them and take everything they have.
