Sport-Express reports that the 2006 Olympic champion in ice dancing, Roman Kostomarov, suffered a second stroke in a short time that caused a blockage in the cerebral vessels. The athlete was sent to intensive care, where doctors performed plasmapheresis for sepsis – blood purification.

Also, Kostomarov was diagnosed with secondary meningitis, in which complications arose not from direct transmission to a person, as in primary meningitis, but as a result of another disease.

Telegram channel Mash also wrote on February 20 about the development of secondary meningitis. According to the source, doctors have yet to stop the blood poisoning and the Olympic champion is on a medical sleep ventilator (artificial lung ventilation). Doctors consider his condition unstable and extremely serious.

Sports doctor Alexander Yablunovsky told why Kostomarov could have such complications.

“Assuming there is an initial problem with a viral infection, pneumonia, and blood clotting disorders, then it is not just the microcirculation in the limbs that is damaged.

The same capillaries are found in the heart and lungs. And in the brain. The veins can burst and these are hematomas, the flow of blood to the brain.

Strokes are most often caused by a lack of oxygen. The blood flow is disturbed, there is not enough oxygen, the tissue dies (just like in the legs and any other organ) can rupture, respectively. With a heart attack, this is a rupture of the heart, respectively, with a stop. With a stroke, this is a rupture of a vessel and a hemorrhage in the brain, ”KP.RU reports the words of a specialist.

Earlier, on February 20, information appeared in the media that Kostomarov had his first stroke – a hemorrhage, in which a hematoma appeared in the frontal lobe of the brain.

The newspaper Izvestia wrote about the problem of another athlete – the liver, which was heavily loaded due to edema, and the large number of drugs that Kostomarov had to take.

There was also information that the skater had fibrosis in his left lung.

Honored trainer of the USSR in figure skating Tatyana Tarasova admitted on February 20 that the news shocked her.

“Honestly, I don’t know if this is true. My legs are bending right now. I don’t know anything. I know what they wrote, ”the Tarasova told the Life portal.

He was supported by Kostomarov and his former partner Tatyana Navka, with whom the skater won a gold medal at the Olympic Games. On social networks, Torino posted a video of their free dance with “Carmen”, which they won in 2006.

“Carmen” for 17 years. Maybe I will leave this dance without comment because I believe our figure skating fans and lovers will say more! This dance is different for everyone but for me it’s my whole life! Rome, I pray for you and I believe that all compassionate people also pray, ”Written Navka.

Recall that information about the hospitalization of Roman Kostomarov appeared on January 10, the skater has been in the hospital for more than a month. The initial diagnosis was pneumonia, but subsequent complications from the disease led to surgical interventions – the skater’s feet and partially toes were amputated.
