The Academy gained a significant advantage at the end of the match to travel to Bolivia and secure the pass to the next stage of the match.
Deportivo Magallanes’ return to the Copa Libertadores after nearly four decades couldn’t have been better. With authority, they triumphed 3-0 over Always Ready at the El Teniente stadium and came very close to qualifying for the final preliminary round, seeking the ticket to be one of 32 teams in the group stage.
From the start, the Academy tried to get the ball and contain the Red Band, but it was not until minute 20 that Christian Vilches, after an endless series of rebounds, was able to put the hosts ahead.
During the rest of the first half and the beginning of the second half, the local side was much more and got a penalty that sent Francisco Flores crashing into the post. The Bolivian team could not provide the ball, let alone approach the rival goal, even with the arrival of ex-Manchester City World Cup player Wilfried Bony.
But there was time to let off steam in the final stretch: at 80 Piñero converted and at 93 Filla did it to extend the difference to three, putting Magallanes one step away from the next round.
In the following graphs you can see the composition of the teams, the changes and the main incidents of the match:
- GOAL OF MAGELLAN! Something that could be the key, converted by Filla
- GOAL OF MAGELLAN! Piñero put his head on the rebound and signaled the 2-0
- GOAL OF MAGELLAN! After several rebounds, Vilches was able to finish and make it 1-0
