Grandmaster Sergey Karyakin commented on the imminent transition of the Russian Chess Federation from Europe to Asia, reports sports24.
“We are not given the opportunity to compete in European competitions. We are oppressed in every way. Let them know we are not welcome there. There is no point in going into places where they do not expect us, ”Karyakin said.
The International Chess Federation Council had previously allowed the Russian Chess Federation to move from the European Chess Union to the Asian Chess Federation.
The FIDE Council made its decision after the international federation’s constitutional commission found no irregularities in the transition. Now the transition process can be completed at the Asian Chess Federation parliamentary meeting to be held in Abu Dhabi on February 28.
Anatoly Karpov, formerly Honorary President of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF), opposes the transition of the organization from the European federation to the Asian federation.
