st. Lev Averbakh, chief physician of a special emergency department in St. Petersburg, said he doubts that 2006 Olympic ice dancing champion Roman Kostomarov has been diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis.

Earlier, the media reported that the figure skater’s condition worsened, and doctors found fibrosis in her left lung.

“There are suspicions that Kostomarov had fibrosis, because it did not show up that quickly. More like atelectasis – collapse of lung tissue with loss of lung volume when a type collapses and stops working.

Of course, these are just guesses, we know very little about Roman’s condition, so no one but doctors can give details. And the history of fibrosis is very questionable,” Averbakh quotes sports24.

The media previously reported that the skater’s hands were cut off due to necrosis, but Valentina Kostomarov’s mother denied this information. Some publications wrote that the athlete was cut off with several fingers on his hands, but not his entire hand.

It was also reported that Kostomarov had undergone foot amputation surgery. Information in the media also differed: some publications wrote about the amputation of the left foot of one foot, others wrote that the athlete lost both feet.
