German journalist Hajo Seppelt, known for his research into doping scandals, said that a possible boycott of many countries to admit Russian athletes to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris would be a major defeat for the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
“If more countries boycott the Olympics because of Bach’s pro-Russia stance, Bach may continue to push for a constitution. Nobody will care. This will be the IOC’s biggest defeat in decades and Bach’s legacy,” Seppelt wrote on the social network.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) previously reported that the organization is considering the participation of Russians and Belarusians in the Olympic Games, which did not express its active support for the special operation in Ukraine. In addition, athletes from Russia and Belarus must meet some other requirements, including passing a full anti-doping test.
In an interview with Der Spiegel, IOC President Thomas Bach stated that he allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the 2024 Games without a flag or anthem, and noted that the IOC does not support discrimination based on nationality.
Ali Abdel-Aziz, former manager of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Islam Makhachev, saidthat his client’s words about the poor publicity of the struggle against Australian Alex Volkanovski were distorted.
