Two-time Olympic champion Dmitry Vasiliev said he did not believe the words of the US National Olympic Committee. The organization said it is not against seeing Russians in tournaments, provided that safe and fair play is ensured.
“I don’t believe that something clicked in the head of Americans. It is no coincidence that they hated us, but now they have fallen in love with us sharply. I think this is a trick or an attempt to spread the hay. I don’t believe the Americans want us back. I give athletes the minimum percentage they consult. Athlete survey was not conducted. A week ago they wanted to form a coalition against us. Miracles do not happen,” Vasiliev quotes DEA News.
On January 25, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that it is considering the possibility of allowing Russian athletes who do not support the conduct of a special operation on Ukrainian territory to participate in international competitions in a neutral status. The set of rules will be presented later.
Until now, only a few Russian athletes compete in international competitions. They are represented only in disciplines where they are allowed to compete under a neutral flag.
It was previously reported that The Organizing Committee of the 2024 Olympic Games will respect the IOC’s position on the reception of Russians..
