Two goals from the French gave a Real Madrid that did not have a comfortable game the victory. Courtois made two saves to make it 0-0
A double of Karim Benzema has placed Real Madrid as the virtual leader of the First Division by standing with 38 points. Barcelona, who will play against Espanyol on Saturday, has 37 points.
Ancelotti’s team did not have a comfortable match in the José Zorrilla. The Madrid team started well, with rhythm and agility and deserved to score in the first minutes, but Masip made some good interventions and Benzema sent a very clear chance to the clouds.
The minutes passed and Valladolid believed it. Aguado tried some long shots and eventually forced Courtois into a great save on the first. In the second half, Sergio León also provided the Belgian with a great save with a great header.
But the game would be decided by VAR. A Rüdiger header hit Javi Sánchez in the hand and Gil Manzano told Munuera Montero to go and watch the action and, after seeing it, ruled it a penalty. In the first half there was another hand after Asensio’s cross that was not designated as maximum penalty. Benzema did not forgive from the penalty spot, who would later condemn the match in minute 88 after an extraordinary play by Camavinga, who again played at a high level coming off the bench.

Reactions of Valladolid vs. Real Madrid from LaLiga 2022-2023
Courtois, after the party
“I think the two keepers played a good game. It looked like it was going to be 0-0
“In Javi Sánchez’s first hand, I don’t think it was blown because it was a rebound, but in a match with Asensio we were called for a hand after a rebound. We don’t know when it’s a penalty. The other is a hand which is on high, it is a foolish punishment, but it is a punishment.”
“Karim still lacked some rhythm, but it’s important for his confidence that he scored two goals. We’re still doing well. Now it’s time for the cup and then it’s difficult at Villarreal. Let’s see if we can keep the league leaders under pressure to make.”
Masip, after the game
“Very proud of what the team has achieved. We showed our face and the game was decided on details”.
“Sometimes these kinds of hands are whistled, other times I don’t think so. Today they hurt us. It’s details. The referee told us that Sergio León was sent off, that he said something but I don’t know what”.
Minute by minute
Minute 90. Eight added!
Minute 88. Goal by Benzema! Great play from Camavinga and the Ballon d’Or scored a double to end the clash.
Minute 85. Modric and Tchouaméni come in before Valverde and Vinicius.
Minute 82. Goal by Benzema! The Frenchman who perfectly cheated Masip does not fail. Ancelotti’s box is in front.
Minute 81. Sergio León sent off! He has said something to the fourth official and Munuera Montero takes the red card. Joaquín, who also protested, has seen the yellow card.
Minute 80. Penalty in favor of Real Madrid! Rüdiger’s header hits Javi Sánchez’s hand. Munuera Montero went to the VAR and decides that a penalty will follow.
Minute 78. Masip saves Valladolid! Benzema made an individual move and his shot with a wire from the front was stopped by Masip who stretched a corner kick.
Minute 67. Vinicius almost scored! Play by the Brazilian that ends with a Vaseline attempt that goes wide. He was wrong in the definition, but the piece was exquisite.
Minute 66. Saved by Courtois! Shot from Sergio León after a corner kick and the Belgian for well below. Spectacular Courtois.
60 minutes. Double substitution for Ancelotti: Rodrygo and Lucas Vázquez come in for Carvajal and Asensio.
Minute 54. Gonzalo Plata comes in for Iván Sánchez in Valladolid.
Minute 46. The second half begins!
Pause! No goals after the first 45 minutes.
Minute 35. Courtois! Paradón from the Belgian with a long shot and with a thread from Aguado.
31 minute. Sergio León now asked for a penalty for a collision with Alaba. Nor does it ask for it. In the ensuing counter-attack, Masip saved a shot from Vinicius.
28 minutes. Asensio asked for a penalty for a struggle with Joaquín, but Munuera Montero does not think that is the maximum penalty.
Minute 17. How Benzema has forgiven! Vinicius shoots, Masip clears and the ball falls to Benzema who throws it over the goal with everything in his favor. Admittedly the action came off a corner kick and there were quite a few players around, but Benzema, with the quality he has, should score on this occasion.
Minute 10. Masip evades Asensio’s goal! Wonderful game from Real Madrid. Valverde wins the race from Escudero, concedes to Benzema, Benzema cuts off for Asensio, Masip stops, Ceballos picks up the rebound, speeds up the finish line in a sensational way and his deadly pass is covered by Javi Sánchez. After deflecting, the ball hit him in the hand, but the referee and VAR decide that it is not a penalty kick.
Minute 8. What Sergio León Tried! Good play from Valladolid and the striker tried a somewhat distant heel shot that Courtois caught without any problems.
Minute 5. Rüdiger has had it! The German only completed at the near post in a corner but his shot was very poor and he sent it to the other side of the box. Rare in Rudiger. If he had finished as usual, he could have scored.
