American basketball player Brittney Griner, who is serving her sentence in Mordovia, urged her fans to write a letter to Paul Whelan, who is imprisoned in Russia, on her social networks.
“Your letters have helped me not to lose hope at a time when I was so weak that I couldn’t even imagine being filled with remorse. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thanks to you, I did not lose hope.
Your letters not only cheered me up, they were more important things.
I hope you will write with me to Paul Whelan and advocate for other Americans to return to their families,” Greiner wrote.
Recall that on March 5, Greiner was detained while passing through customs, a service dog reacted to the athlete’s belongings that contained cannabis oil, which is banned in Russia.
Greiner was sentenced to nine years in prison and a fine of 1 million rubles. The UMMC basketball player spent his last months in one of the Mordovian colonies. In early December, he was replaced by Russian businessman Viktor Bout.
Formerly Agent Greiner explains the basketball player’s decision to help Paul Whelan, who is imprisoned in Russia.
