Infantino proposes a Club World Cup with 32 teams, with a format similar to the World Cup
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced that they have designed a Club World Cup for the year 2025, which will consist of a competition with a similar format to the World Cup for national teams. According to Infantino, FIFA wants to propose that in total 32 teams from the different continents. With this, FIFA wants to promote a new tournament that improves the competitiveness of various clubs around the world and in this way also succeeds in generating important new economic income.
What the FIFA-designed 2025 FIFA Club World Cup would look like: format, dates and participating clubs
Initially, Infantino explained that the format of the new FIFA Club World Cup will be very similar to that of the World Cup for national teams. In other words, there would be a group stage and some knockout rounds between the qualified clubs, all the way to the final. Infantino explained that this draft fell apart years earlier due to the effects of Covid-19, but will now take effect in 2025. There’s still none official headquarters selected for the World Cup.
