Former goalkeeper of the Czech national hockey team, Dominik Hasek, said that he did not want to impose sanctions on Russian athletes due to a special operation in Ukraine. Transmits words www.tribuna.com.
“I don’t want sanctions on Russian athletes. But at the same time, it should be remembered that their participation in competitions “between us” is a big advertisement for the actions of their country. And we want to completely stop this multi-trillion dollar advertising of Russia. Many competitions have already done this,” Hasek said.
Recall that at the end of February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) addressed international sports federations and recommended that domestic and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.
After that, various international sports organizations began to exclude Russian athletes from competitions. According to the IOC President, the suspension period is still open. However, in some sports, Russian athletes continue to compete under a neutral flag.
It is worth noting that after the break in some sports branches, joint competitions were held with the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus.
