After clinching the sub-championship world championship, the Croatia national team bade farewell to some of his best men, including mandzukic, Subbasic Y rakitic. Two of them continue to play professionally, but these three cracks no longer represent the team led by zlatko dalic.

With the advent of World Cup Qatar 2022, there are absences in the Croatian team that undoubtedly create a void for all fans in the world; Ivan Rakitic resigned from the national team at the end of Euro 2021, but Mario Mandzukic and Danijel Subasic left the responsibility to the next Croatian generations after taking second place in the World Cup in Russia 2018 when they faced France in the final.

In goal We tell you what happened to Mandzukic and Subasic and why they are no longer playing for the Croatian national team:

Mario Mandzukic

‘Super Mario’, as he was popularly known, announced his retirement from the Croatian national team after falling 4-2 against France in the 2018 World Cup final in Russia. In that match, Mandzukic opened the scoring with a goal conceded, but redeemed himself for his mistake by converting the second goal his team scored.

At the age of 32, Mandzukic left the Croatian representative, although he continued to play with Milan in Serie A until the age of 35; i.e. he retired in 2021, ending a 17-year career as a footballer.

Although he sounded to bolster Barcelona before hanging up his tennis shoes, Mario ended his career with 89 caps, scoring 33 goals.

Daniel Subasic

Subasic, 33, was another Croatian footballer who did not continue to defend his national team’s colors as he finished second in the world.

Danijel was a Croatian goalkeeper 44 times and was called up by his country for a decade, but the end came in Russia 2018 when he released an emotional letter explaining that he always wore his country’s shirt “with honor and pride”.

At the age of 38, Subasic continues his career as a professional with Hajduk Split in the Croatian First Division and after a successful career as a goalkeeper for AS Monaco of France for almost a decade.
