Star characters, great acting, great action and, again, some of the best costumes on TV can go a long way in covering up structural flaws. This year I was promised a cool fantasy series, and I got it. Just not the one I expected.
The Witcher: Blood Origin definitely suffers without a solid Henry Cavill-style character, because the script just isn’t strong enough for the fractured story it tells. However, flamboyant and memorable actors like Mirren Mack and Sophia Brown elevate this origin story to the level of something to watch at Christmas.
Your enjoyment of Origin depends on how immersed you are in the Witcher universe and how critical you are of the shoddy storylines it presents.
At the time of writing this news, the average rating of the series on Metacritic is 55 points. On Rotten Tomatoes, the situation is a little worse – there the rating is 42%.
