The famous Soviet and Russian coach and official Valery Nepomniachtchi, who led the Cameroon national team to the quarterfinals of the 1990 World Cup, spoke about the resignation of Luis Enrique from the post of head coach of the Spanish national team.
“This is a story from the classic series – it did not live up to expectations. And possibly countries and leadership. That’s why we made such a decision. The team was undecided. They were good with the ball, but in football the main thing is to score, but it didn’t happen at the right time,” the expert commented on the dismissal of the Spanish coach.
Nepomniachtchi also commended the failure of “Red Fury” at the World Cup, where the Spaniards lost in the 1/8 final of the Moroccan national team and lost in penalty shootout after a goalless draw in regular and extra time:
“Yes, Spain absolute control and did not threaten the gates of Morocco. Luis Enrique tried to create something that had been tried before – playing offense without forwards. Where there are two lines and at some point any of the players can be a striker. And it didn’t work. Without the tip, it turns out that without the first line active offensive players, the game just turns into ball control, and that’s it. In short, Enrique’s principles did not work. We need players who are willing and able to score goals.”
