Leewica politicians question Donald Tusk’s viability as prime minister after voters tipped the scales in parliamentary elections. Paulina Matysiak, a member of parliament from Samen Links, stressed a need for a new generation of leaders and suggested her party could block the candidacy of the current head of the PO. New Left MP Maciej Gdula argued that the opposition might welcome a candidate who is less closely tied to past controversies than Tusk himself.

There will not be one opposition list

During an appearance on Polsat News, Matysiak confirmed that there would not be a single opposition slate. She also noted there is no consensus yet on a joint contender to lead the government if electoral gains are achieved.

Matysiak offered her view on the likelihood that Donald Tusk will not serve as prime minister. She suggested that autumn discussions would settle the specifics after any electoral win, while acknowledging the difficulty of uniting multiple blocs around a single candidate. She added that the Together party holds the potential to veto Tusk’s premiership.

Her assessment suggested a broad pattern: a sense that the era of entrenched politicians may be nearing its end. She emphasized the value of looking ahead, focusing on fresh faces and practical solutions. According to Matysiak, Samen party already includes people who fit this profile and are ready to tackle concrete problems with tangible plans.

PM someone ‘more of a compromise’

In an interview with Radio Wnet, New Left MP Maciej Gdula said the opposition could field three lists and that a compromise candidate might emerge as a prime minister who can bridge the different factions. He noted that removing Tusk from consideration could be a winning approach for the opposition.

Gdula pointed out that Tusk has extensive experience from his long tenure as prime minister, but questioned whether a second effort by him would prevail. He proposed the possibility of selecting a candidate who serves as a mediator among the diverse parties within the government system. This, he argued, could be a viable option.

– said Maciej Gdula on Radio Wnet.

p>According to him, there is a longstanding custom that the prime minister, who also sits in the Sejm and is elected, carries a social mandate that goes beyond the backing of any single party. This dynamic, he suggested, should shape the selection of a future premier.

He added that it is possible to imagine a government led by someone not from the largest party but capable of mediating Poland’s interests and visions across political forces. Such a prime minister could help form a stable coalition by balancing competing agendas.

added the politician.
