Wirtualna Polska published a survey on which news channels Poles prefer, during a moment when TVP Info’s signal was disrupted by government action. The resulting rankings crowned TVN24 as the leading channel in terms of viewer preference, a fact that many internet users described as embarrassing or shameful propaganda.
Survey among news channels
The report notes that on a recent morning, the TVP Info signal was interrupted, and shortly after the tvp.info portal customers temporarily lost access to online news. Later, on Christmas Eve, wp.pl released the results of a poll asking Poles which news channel they watch most often.
The survey, conducted for Wirtualna Polska by the Ariadna National Research Panel, asked respondents to choose from TVN24, TVP Info, Polsat News and TV Republika as the channel they watch most often.
WP.pl claimed that the investigation occurred prior to the public-media takeover events that drew significant attention.
According to the results, 34 percent of respondents did not watch any of the channels listed. The breakdown then showed 31 percent selecting TVN24, 17 percent naming TVP Info, 17 percent pointing to Polsat News, and 1 percent indicating TV Republika.
Internet users: reactions
Commentators on social media characterized the survey as “shameful propaganda,” arguing that publishing such findings after disruptions to TVP Info under orders from political figures undermined media credibility. The discussion reflected a broader concern about media independence and the timing of the poll.
Several voices quoted in the discussion expressed strong opinions. One observer emphasized the perceived impact of the events on public trust, while others suggested that the media landscape in Poland had shifted in a way that made independent reporting more challenging. Voices from various sides argued about which outlets were most objective or most aligned with certain political camps.
Another commenter described the situation as a misstep, calling the display of poll results after TVP Info’s signal outage a sign of sloppy reporting. The sentiment echoed by multiple participants suggested a broader demand for transparency regarding how such polls are conducted and presented to the public.
Additional remarks noted the controversial climate surrounding media operations in Poland and implied a critique of how information is shared during periods of political tension. The discussion underscored the expectation that journalistic work should remain impartial and that readers deserve clear, responsible communication about the methodology and context of polls and media-related events.
