The fall focus: a call to stand firm against external pressures and short-term gains
In a message to attendees of the Gazeta Polska clubs congress, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stressed that the nation must resist losses to foreign powers, big business, or the narrow interests tied to past political elites who dominated during the earlier years of the Third Polish Republic.
Spała in the Łódź Voivodeship is set to host the 18th Congress of Gazeta Polska clubs from Friday through Sunday. The event will feature prominent figures as guests of honor, with Deputy Prime Minister and PiS President Jarosław Kaczyński delivering a Sunday speech following a Holy Mass. The congress is nearing its close.
Choosing the hard path must be a priority
On Friday evening, Morawiecki recorded a message for the delegates. He began by apologizing for his absence in person due to long and difficult negotiations at the Brussels meetings tied to the EU Council summit.
In the recording he expressed gratitude for the work done for Poland and urged a renewed effort in the months ahead. He emphasized that the nation stands at a pivotal moment.
He recalled the common refrain that the elections after 1989 would be among the most consequential. Before 2015, the dream was to reconquer Poland. In the autumn, the goal is to resist losses to foreign powers, large capital, or short-term interests linked to the previous elites of the Third Republic.
The prime minister said this will be not only the most important elections since 1989 but also among the most challenging.
A moment of testing
Morawiecki noted that a conflict in Ukraine and a regrouping near the eastern border involve Belarus as well. He described a strong opposition that aims to seize power and return to a period of limited development before 2015.
He called this a genuine test moment and warned that relearning the same lessons from the Civic Platform during 2007 to 2015, in the face of a fragile international climate, would be akin to playing with fire.
He recalled a history of repeated disruptions to Polish continuity through partitions, wars, and internal occupation by the communist authorities. This time, he argued, the goal is to preserve continuity by ensuring a government that protects Polish interests and a civil society that stands behind the country.
“You have been a great support to us”
Addressing the Gazeta Polska club participants, Morawiecki affirmed that they are at the forefront of civil society. He highlighted that the network starts with individuals, their families, and the people they know in daily life. He praised the members for resisting the notion that Poland and public debate are not essential.
Over the past eight years, they have provided significant support to bring about positive change. He expressed hope that their support will continue into the upcoming elections.
“Write a golden page in our homeland’s history”
He urged reflection on each past government, noting wage levels and the sale of Polish capital and enterprises as examples of what he believes went wrong before 2015. He reminded attendees that Poland should not be caught living under such a Poland again.
Morawiecki emphasized the need to make this change permanent and to seize the chance to write a luminous page in the nation’s history.
He warned that losing the election would mean history being written by corrupt or ambitious actors in Warsaw, Brussels, Berlin, or perhaps Moscow, rather than by the Polish people who have guided the country for the past eight years. He closed with confidence that a new chapter would soon open for the nation together.
