Statement of Solidarity from the President of the Supreme Court
The inaugural head of the Supreme Court, Małgorzata Manowska, has voiced support for the Head and deputies of the Court of Appeal in Warsaw, Piotr Schab and his team. She urged the Minister of Justice to refrain from measures that would contravene the law and, in doing so, could undermine the welfare of citizens.
Manowska’s words echo the earlier remarks made by Schab and the Court of Appeal’s senior figures in Warsaw. The initial report on their stance appeared on the wPolityce.pl portal, which was the first to publish their statements.

Compliance with existing rules
In relation to the March 11, 2024 announcement by the President and Vice-Presidents of the Court of Appeal in Warsaw, the President reaffirmed her agreement with the legal assessment contained in the February 20, 2024 letter from the Minister of Justice. That letter proposed the removal of the Court of Appeal’s President in Warsaw.

Efforts to challenge Piotr Schab’s status as President of the Court of Appeal in Warsaw and those of his deputies are in direct contradiction with current regulations and lack a sound legal foundation, rendering them ineffective. This stance aligns with the Constitutional Court’s February 27, 2024 ruling, which temporarily halted the validity of the Justice Ministry’s decision.

Manowska also emphasized her solidarity with Piotr Schab and the other leaders of the Court of Appeal in Warsaw, underscoring the need to observe the law and to avoid actions that could threaten the well-being of citizens.

The reporting on these events was initially carried by the wPolityce.pl portal on February 21, noting that Justice Minister Adam Bodnar had dismissed the President of the Court of Appeal in Warsaw, Piotr Schab. According to the Justice Ministry, the move invoked provisions of the Law on the Organization of Common Courts to remove Judge Schab from his post.
