In a unanimous decision, signatories of the Senate Pact withdrew Małgorzata Zych from any recommendation for the Senate elections, according to PSL spokesman Miłosz Motyka. He told the Polish Press Agency that Zych would not run with any of the groups forming the Senate Pact.

The pledge, it seems, means Zych will not be a candidate for a PSL-supported slate within the pact in the upcoming vote.

Motyka confirmed that Zych is not aligning with a specific bloc inside the pact.

As Motyka added: “Małgorzata Zych will not be a candidate of any of the groups that constitute the Senate Pact in the Senate elections.”

Historically, Zych left the Confederation list during the 2019 elections and previously led the Confederation Club in Tarnobrzeg. She collaborated closely with Grzegorz Braun, a current member of parliament from the same party, and she helped organize events such as the conference titled “Stop the Ukrainering of Poland” in Tarnobrzeg. In the upcoming elections, she would have stood as a Senate candidate, recommended by PSL within the Senate Pact for District 54, covering Stalowa Wola in the Podkarpacie region.

Earlier this week, during a discussion at the Poles of the Future Campus in Olsztyn, PSL President Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz was asked why individuals who do not condemn Vladimir Putin as a war criminal are on democratic opposition rosters. He stated that without a clear condemnation from Zych regarding Putin’s actions in Ukraine, she would not be their candidate.

Following those remarks, Zych issued a statement on Wednesday in which she described Vladimir Putin as a “war criminal.”

Contemporary remarks or late moves?

In her statement, Zych asserted that she unequivocally condemns Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. She underscored that the crimes committed by Russia render Vladimir Putin responsible for the aggression and called for accountability and punishment for those involved in the aggression.

The candidate for the Senate also noted that, as part of the PSL recommendation, she embraces the program and values associated with this group.

These values include a commitment to the rule of law, democratic governance, freedom, and human dignity, all of which she believes are at stake in the current conflict initiated by Russia.

In closing, Zych reaffirmed her alignment with the PSL’s stated platform and its broader political principles while addressing the evolving political landscape in the district.
