A parliamentary team focused on reparations, compensation, and recovery for Polish citizens affected by German aggression and occupation has been formed. The announcement was made on social media by the current deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Arkadiusz Mularczyk. He noted that Jarosław Kaczyński, the president of PiS, is among the team’s members. Mularczyk stressed that the issue of Poland receiving reparations will persist and remain a prominent feature on both the domestic political stage and international discussions.
The newly established parliamentary group aims to address reparations, compensation, and recovery for Poles from Germany, and to assess potential compensation from Russia for damages incurred during World War II, in alignment with the Sejm’s resolution dated September 14, 2022.
According to Mularczyk, the group includes several PiS figures, among them Jarosław Kaczyński, Marek Kuchciński, Piotr Gliński, Kazimierz Smoliński, Waldemar Buda, Piotr Babinetz, and Marek Ast. He reiterated that the reparations question will continue to be a significant issue on both national and international political agendas, with ongoing emphasis on its importance for Polish citizens and the country’s historical narrative.
A year ago, a report was presented outlining Poland’s losses stemming from German aggression and occupation during the Second World War. In October of the previous year, the foreign minister signed a diplomatic note on the German side regarding war reparations. Poland has sought compensation for material and intangible losses, with figures that include substantial totals in Polish zloty and related damages, as part of a broader request for restitution.
Earlier this year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs had responded to the note. The German government reiterated that the issue of reparations and compensation for war losses has been closed and that Germany does not intend to begin negotiations on this matter.
