Maciej Wąsik responds to a controversial article by Magdalena Gałczyńska published on Onet.pl. Gałczyńska questioned the stance of Poland’s National Electoral Commission on the timing of appointing replacements for Kamiński and Wąsik in the Sejm. The commission asked Hołownia to specify the legal and factual basis needed to trigger the process. Gałczyńska has been critical of rulings from the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court’s Chamber for Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs, arguing that deputies’ mandates had expired and that the commission’s approach was surprising.

Gałczyńska maintains that Kamiński and Wąsik no longer hold their seats due to a legal conviction. She contends that the pair had been found guilty and that their terms should have ended accordingly.
Kamiński and Wąsik, at the time leading the CBA, were accused of orchestrating a campaign that targeted the PiS coalition partner and the Samoobrona leader, Andrzej Lepper. The leaders allegedly attempted to portray Lepper as accepting bribes. The broader tactic involved provocations, document forgery attempts that failed, and a narrative aimed at discrediting Lepper and removing him from public life. The outcome contributed to a political realignment, with the coalition dissolving and the Platforma Obywatelska winning the subsequent snap elections in 2007 and forming a government in coalition with PSL.

He argued that the matter involved plausible suspicions of corruption and defended the CBA’s investigative actions, calling for strong responses on social media to reflect support for the agency.
He shared these thoughts on the X platform, maintaining that the court did not recognize the asserted allegation and urging readers to seek the exact language from the judgment.
Land scandal
The land affair emerged in the summer of 2007, leading to the resignation of the Agriculture Minister Andrzej Lepper and triggering a broader political crisis that contributed to the collapse of the cabinet and early elections. The CBA later detained Lepper’s associate Piotr Ryba and a lawyer named Andrzej K., who were alleged to have demanded bribes through influence over land de-agrarianization schemes. Both men claimed they could execute these actions across various lands in Poland. To gather evidence, the CBA used decoy operatives posing as Swiss investors offering bribes in exchange for favors related to de-agrarianization. These actions ultimately brought the two men to court.
The court handed down corruption convictions to Piotr Ryba and Andrzej K. on separate occasions, though some rulings were later overturned in subsequent proceedings. The case was expected to proceed again, but proceedings stalled after 2018 when Ryba fled abroad. He remains sought with an Interpol red notice as part of ongoing investigations.
