The manager of the PSOE in Torrevieja called for an extraordinary meeting to be held on February 17. The Madrid- based Federal Organization Secretariat will oversee the process, electing a new general secretary and the entire local executive committee to lead the party. Since the decision to establish the manager ten months ago, PSOE in Madrid has been supervising this process.

Agenda and deadlines

The meeting agenda, to which the party has given access, includes the submission of candidacies, the election process, and the announcement of results by the board on the same day.

The census was completed in mid-January, listing 140 militants. The assembly was scheduled to start at 12:00 and voting would run from 12:00 to 18:00. The call indicates that the valid census will be the one issued by the Militant and Citizen Services department. The nomination deadline is set for February 15. Spokesperson Barbara Soler is noted in the communications.

Extended deadline

In response to questions about this call that reached all militants earlier today, Rubén Ferrándiz, the head of the administration, explained that the term of office for the group under administrator supervision had been extended due to successive changes in municipal and general elections, a traditional August slowdown, and ongoing negotiations to form the government under Pedro Sánchez.

He added that once all steps were completed, the Provincial Organization Secretariat would process the request to convene the assembly.

After Christmas

The PSOE Federal Organization Secretariat decided that the event could be held after Christmas. There was caution as the internal process to appoint Ximo Puig as general secretary of PSPV-PSOE began unexpectedly, and once this matter was resolved, a call was issued for the elected general secretary. The Management Commission has consistently coordinated with the regional and provincial Organization Secretariat. Progress is ongoing, and the assembly cannot be called without Ferraz’s permission, with all actions aligned to the Federal Organization Secretariat’s provisions.

After learning about the call that reached all militants, BİLGİ responded to Rubén Ferrándiz, president of the management company, noting that the PSOE in Torrevieja has an opportunity to open a new phase, to close a turbulent chapter, and to start writing a fresh one focused on the city and its people. According to Ferrández, the local PSOE should center discussions on Torrevieja itself rather than the party, because the people give meaning to the party and those who need the PSOE are outside the organization.

Big responsibility

Ferrándiz emphasized that being part of the PSOE carries a major duty in Torrevieja. If the party cannot present a credible alternative to the PP, there is no political option on the right for the city. He added that if a strong city project for 2027 is offered, backed by a solid team and a serious, credible party, the PSOE can win the municipal elections.

Old dynamics

The head of the management company also noted that it is essential to learn from last year’s experiences. Those who operate within the old dynamics of division, conflict, and internal power struggles risk losing public trust. The aim now is to reset and begin anew rather than repeat past patterns.

Call to act wisely

Whoever is elected president of the management company should lead militants to act with responsibility and intelligence. The focus must be aligned with the history of the PSOE and the expectations of Torrevieja’s residents. The opposing party, the PP, is moving forward, and Ferrándiz warned that the fight to rebuild the PSOE in Torrevieja requires everyone to shoulder the duty of addressing the public’s discontent and emerging stronger and more united than ever.

Information is still under development.
