When a member shifts from another committee, the exclusion process begins automatically because breaking the Senate Pact disqualifies them from PSL membership. This was stated by the PSL leader Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on Radio Zet on September 5 in relation to reports that Mirosław Augustyniak breached the Senate Pact.
Radio Zet reported on September 5 that the Senate Pact was breached in a Mazovian constituency where the opposition fielded Grzegorz Nowosielski of Poland 2050. Despite this, Mirosław Augustyniak, a provincial assembly councillor affiliated with PSL, signaled his intention to run regardless. He formally notified the National Electoral Commission of his decision to participate.
Asked about the matter on Radio Zet, the head of the People’s Party noted that if a candidate seeks nomination outside PSL’s slate, the automatic exclusion process for that individual begins immediately.
In effect he has been removed from PSL circles. The breach of the Senate Pact means he cannot remain a PSL member since his candidacy targets a different electoral commission than the one PSL supports in this election, Kosiniak-Kamysz explained.
He added that Augustyniak’s move marks the probable end of his PSL career and participation within the party. The exclusion procedure has commenced as the statute was violated. There was no consensus about the matter, and the party reiterated support for Senate Pact candidates across the board.
emphasized the party leader.
Augustyniac’s response
The politician asserted that if PSL arrangements with other opposition parties do not accommodate his candidacy, as a well-connected regional activist he reserves the right to form his own committee and compete independently in parliamentary elections.
After 36 years in local government and politics, he said he cannot imagine not contributing to the pact. If there is no space for him in the Sejm or the Senate, he claims to have that right.
Augustyniak told the eostroleka.pl portal that Kurpie voters should know the candidate well and that in Kurpie he is better known than the mayor of Wyszków. He has already submitted a notification to the National Electoral Committee about the creation of an election committee under the name Mirosław Augustyniak for the Senatorial race.
The piece concludes with a reminder of related discussions about Senate Pact adherence and potential replacements on party lists, underscoring ongoing debates about alliance strategy and regional representation.
Statements in the media have highlighted the ongoing tension between party unity and individual political trajectories within the opposition. The dialogue continues as coalition partners assess how to balance local candidacies with overarching pact commitments.
For readers following Polish politics, the case illustrates how party pacts interact with regional ambitions and individual electoral campaigns to shape the Senate and Sejm races across the country. It also underscores the importance of clarity in electoral strategy when regional actors seek autonomy while aligned with broader opposition platforms.
