The session setting the date for the appointment of the new president of the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces took place during the ordinary general assembly in October, with the meeting held today in Alicante. In this session, opposition groups Compromís and PSPV-PSOE announced two separate motions. The core aim voiced by the Valencians is to tighten oversight on public money disbursed as subsidies by the state agency, while the socialist side prepared to seek clarity on the Constitutional Court’s ruling related to the Cooperation Fund, which had been announced the previous week.

In particular, the proposal submitted by the Commitments group requests that salary distributions focus on individuals responsible for organizations that receive subsidies funded by the County Council itself. The initiative was presented by Ximo Perles, the spokesman for the Valencian coalition in the state institution, who described the situation as “shameful” regarding officials of organizations funded by the State Assembly earning higher compensation than some local mayors.
Former speaker and current member of parliament for Compromís in the Valencian Provincial Assembly, Gerard Fullana, attended the motion’s unveiling on Monday. Fullana urged the provincial body to avoid recurring obstacles in delivering aid and to clarify responsibilities for situations he believes have occurred in the past. He acknowledged that foundations can give rise to such scenarios, but framed the matter as one of ethical accountability.

The socialist spokesperson in the Provincial Assembly, Vicente Arques, indicated that his group will present a motion at the plenary session the following Tuesday to provide the Cooperation Fund with an extraordinary budget item, aiming to restore money the municipalities in Alicante province feel they have lost due to the PP’s stance on the fund. Arques stated that Mazón and Pérez should acknowledge any missteps and take responsibility for correcting them, underscoring the need for transparency in how funds are allocated and reported.
Officials connected to the administration explained that the ongoing discussions revolve around ensuring that funds reach intended recipients while maintaining rigorous oversight. The debates highlight a broader concern about fiscal stewardship at the provincial level, with particular attention to how subsidies are tracked, how decisions are justified, and how future allocations can be structured to prevent gaps in funding for municipalities across the region.
