“It was turned into a powerful weapon to fight Law and Justice, the Polish services. A large-scale surveillance in our country was proposed to create such a false belief among our citizens that any of us could be under surveillance,” stated a PiS politician, Mariusz Kamiński, in an interview with Telewizja wPolska.
Constant manipulation
Mariusz Kamiński, a member of Parliament for Law and Justice, spoke about the scale of disruptions linked to Pegasus and characterized it as “enormous.”
This is how the Civic Platform and media outlets that back it, such as TVN or Gazeta Wyborcza, are described in his view. He argued that the aim is to stir hysteria around security matters in the country, specifically regarding the use of software by Polish services and the lawful use of programs capable of decrypting instant messages in investigations tied to suspected crimes. According to Kamiński, this situation has been weaponized to undermine Law and Justice and the services themselves. He warned of mass surveillance being proposed to persuade citizens that everyone could be watched, even in private moments, with Pegasus supposedly having camera access. He described these assertions as extraordinary and noted ongoing manipulation of names as part of political provocations, with various politicians being named as alleged victims of Pegasus-related activities.

Siemoniak hides himself in secret
As Kamiński noted: “Tomasz Siemoniak, serving as coordinator of the secret services, has access to this information and can deny any false statements that polarize the Polish political scene.”
But he does not do so. He does not act with full awareness. When journalists inquire about the case, he conceals it as a state secret. It is not a state secret that false information appears in the public space.
– he said.

Citizen Lab Scale
Kamiński also referenced claims by the Citizen Lab group at the University of Toronto, which suggested that Pegasus software, among other things, was used to monitor Poland. The statement also involved lawyer Roman Giertych, prosecutor Ewa Wrzosek, KO senator Krzysztof Brejza, and AgroUnia leader Michał Kołodziejczak.
In his view, this stance functions as a cover for support from very large telecommunications companies, such as Apple, which are said to provide technical and financial backing. He argued that these tech giants, positioning their products as secure and private, compete with NSO and the state services that supply the software, potentially amplifying conflicts of interest with Apple and similar firms.
– Kaminski commented.
He acknowledged that while illegal hacking activities can benefit citizens, there are also significant state security interests at stake. Worldwide, state services argue that in cases involving decryptors used by criminals, evidence can be collected legally with the appropriate authorization. In Poland, every instance involved permission from the Public Prosecution Service and the court, targeting cases of serious crime or counterintelligence concerns.
– emphasized Mariusz Kamiński.
