In light of the current events in Russia, the Minister of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak, stated in Krynki, Podlaskie, that everything needed has been done to secure the country. He dismissed opposition narratives as a misrepresentation of facts.

On Sunday, the Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of National Defense visited troops stationed on Poland’s eastern border.

We have done everything possible to ensure safety

During the briefing, the minister was asked if the government had taken all potentially available steps in response to the Saturday events in Russia, as critics accused the administration of inertia.

With the opposition present, Poland has a full spectrum of competing voices, the minister observed.

Together with the Prime Minister, the minister noted that they visited Bogatynia to discuss the situation in detail, followed by a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Chancellery chaired by the Prime Minister. A later session at the National Security Bureau, led by President Andrzej Duda, complemented the consultations. The two leaders also coordinated with counterparts abroad, including defense ministers from allied nations, to take the necessary measures to safeguard the country.

The minister added that the opposition should feel embarrassment because their portrayals distort the events.

We are strengthening the country’s security while criticizing the opposition’s record

The minister also referenced the Prime Minister’s remarks about the 2020 agreement with the United States, signed on the centenary of a historic victory near Warsaw. The accord enabled rapid movement of US forces and reinforced American troops in Poland when Ukraine faced aggression from Russia.

The minister stressed that efforts are underway to bolster national defenses and security, noting that the opposition has reduced military readiness, thus framing the current challenge as one that requires resolute action for the homeland.

March of Justice concerns

Last Friday, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Group, claimed Russian troops attacked his camp and reported casualties. He spoke of restoring order in the army and demanded the removal of Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu after a public dispute. Wagner forces briefly seized the headquarters of the Southern Military District in Rostov-on-Don and moved toward Moscow.

Yet by Saturday night, Prigozhin halted the advance, directing mercenaries to field camps to avoid bloodshed. Reportedly, this outcome followed negotiations involving Belarusian leader Alyaksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin, conducted with Prigozhin’s involvement.

Responses from Polish authorities

On Saturday, President Andrzej Duda convened a National Security Bureau meeting with the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, ministers, and security services. Earlier, Prime Minister Morawiecki had met with ministers of national defense, interior, and administration, as well as Polish services, at the Prime Minister’s Chancellery.

President Duda also noted on social media that consultations had taken place with the Prime Minister, the Ministry of National Defense, and allies regarding the situation in Russia. The situation beyond the eastern border was continuously monitored.

Additional coverage described the Prime Minister and the Defense Minister in Białystok, with Morawiecki announcing military expansion funded by restored finances, and Błaszczak stressing the defense of every piece of land.

The public conversation also referenced responses to opposition commentary. The dialogue suggested a pushback against allegations of manipulation by PO MPs and criticism of how the matter was handled in the National Security Bureau. These exchanges were noted as part of ongoing political discourse surrounding national security matters, including assessments by Brudziński and other officials.
