Poland Announces Support Package for Farmers and a Ukrainian Import Ban

The government stressed its commitment to farmers by unveiling a package aimed at supporting Polish grain producers. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Assets Jacek Sasin highlighted the package as tangible help for the Polish countryside. The deputy prime minister, speaking on policy matters, echoed that the proposals presented at the Law and Justice convention on agriculture mark historic decisions for Polish farmers, as noted by MEiN head Przemysław Czarnek.

During a gathering in the village of Łyse near Ostrołęka, the Law and Justice convention focused on agriculture showcased a set of measures under the banner Jarosław Kaczyński’s Concrete For Polish Village. The plan includes a subsidy backed minimum purchase price of 1.4 thousand PLN per ton for wheat, continued fertilizer subsidies, and an increase in agricultural fuel subsidies to 2 PLN per liter of diesel. At the same event, the PiS president announced a government decision to ban the import of grain and dozens of other foodstuffs from Ukraine into Poland.

In subsequent remarks, Waldemar Buda, the Minister of Development and Technology, stated that the Council of Ministers had approved a regulation banning agricultural product imports from Ukraine. The regulation sets a timetable with the ban effective by June 30 of the current year. The scope includes grains, sugar, eggs, and other items.

These words came from Jacek Sasin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Assets, who shared the update on social media after the Saturday event. He underscored that protecting citizens is the top priority, regardless of the geopolitical climate.

As a governing party, we will continue to monitor the situation and ensure farmers do not face isolation, Sasin added.

A package of practical solutions

The plan centers on grain subsidies, fertilizer subsidies, the general purchase framework, and the import ban on agricultural products from Ukraine to Poland. Marlena Maląg, the Minister of Family and Social Policy, summarized these elements in a social media post and attached hashtags to underscore the focus on rural Poland. The post conveyed the essentials of the package as essential for rural households and smallholders.

Przemysław Czarnek, head of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, framed the convention as a moment when decisions were made that respond to the war crisis in Ukraine. He noted that the actions reflect a responsible approach by authorities to the consequences of Russia’s aggression. The statements and framing were shared across media channels and social platforms, reflecting coordinated messaging from the government.

These developments were reported by various outlets and captured in coverage from wPolityce, with additional remarks appearing on official social feeds and press releases.
