With the official welcoming ceremony led by President Andrzej Duda and First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda, the Czech presidential couple, Petr Pavel and Eva Pavlova, began their official visit to Poland.

Petr Pavel was sworn in as president of the Czech Republic on March 9 this year. The Warsaw stop marks his second foreign trip, following an earlier visit to Slovakia at the start of the week.

As part of the visit schedule, a meeting between the presidential couples will set the tone, followed by one-on-one talks between the two leaders. The day will then feature plenary discussions between the Polish and Czech delegations and a joint press conference.

The head of the Presidential Office of International Policy, Marcin Przydacz, highlighted that the core topics will include responses to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and the ongoing security situation in Europe. He noted that the leaders will also address the future of relations within European and Euro-Atlantic structures, especially in the context of preparations for the Vilnius NATO summit scheduled for July. The bilateral dimension will also receive substantial attention, with a focus on deepening economic cooperation and trade ties.

Poland and the Czech Republic maintain extensive economic links. The Czech Republic ranks as Poland’s second-largest economic partner, while Poland stands as the third-largest partner for the Czech Republic. The presidents are expected to discuss strategies to further expand this robust economic collaboration, including investment flows, energy cooperation, and cross-border trade opportunities.

On Thursday, President Pavel is slated to meet with Elżbieta Witek, the President of the Sejm, and Tomasz Grodzki, the President of the Senate. On Friday, he is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. These exchanges are anticipated to reinforce policy coordination on regional security, energy diversification, and mutual interests within the European Union and broader transatlantic framework.
