Former head of the Ministry of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak explained on RMF24 that the Law and Justice party will submit its own bill on civil protection. The proposed project envisions equipping every volunteer fire station with an ambulance and ensuring that firefighters are trained to paramedic standards.

PiS to introduce a distinct bill

In an interview on Saturday, Mariusz Błaszczak, the leader of the Law and Justice parliamentary club, stated that the government’s civil protection law would be complemented by PiS’s own piece of legislation. He asserted that the aim is to make sure that each volunteer fire station has access to an ambulance and that firefighters receive paramedic certification training.

“We will introduce a bill that will ensure that every volunteer fire station has an ambulance and that firefighters are trained for paramedic certification,” Błaszczak said. He added that the so called December 13 coalition concentrates only on large urban centers, while PiS is committed to the sustainable development of the entire country.

According to the former defense minister, strengthening the Polish armed forces remains essential to prevent accidents and threats. In his view, robust defense capabilities contribute to national safety and deter potential attacks that could threaten Poland.

He emphasized that the administration had previously restored Warsaw’s anti aircraft and missile defenses, something he claimed did not exist during the previous government coalition of PO and PSL. He noted that the improvements contribute to the overall security posture of the capital and the country.

Civil protection framework

The Law on Civil Protection and Defense, currently under development by the Ministry of the Interior and Administration in conjunction with the Ministry of Defense, is envisioned as a comprehensive framework for handling different types of crises. The proposed law is expected to clearly define the roles and responsibilities of civil protection during peacetime and wartime, identify the bodies and entities responsible for carrying out these duties, and outline the core principles for planning civil protection and civil defense. It will also specify how the notification, warning, and alert systems operate, how protective structures are registered and used, and how the civil protection system should be organized in practice. The law will address the operating modalities for civil protection personnel and the specific financing arrangements for civil protection tasks.
