This piece aims to show the countryside sits at the heart of PiS’s focus, not just during elections. PiS MEP Ryszard Czarnecki spoke to PAP on Saturday about the Polish Rural Assembly in Przysucha, Mazowieckie, underscoring the party’s long-term interest in rural areas.

When asked about the Polish Village Assembly scheduled for Sunday, where key Law and Justice politicians will outline directions for the future of agriculture, MEP Ryszard Czarnecki noted that the event would feature a presentation by the PiS president, Deputy Prime Minister Henryk Kowalczyk, and EU Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski, with the Prime Minister also taking part.

No fireworks

There will be no fanfare. The purpose is to demonstrate that the countryside remains a central priority for PiS, not just a seasonal concern tied to elections, he explained.

Several concrete proposals are expected to help farmers become the first to benefit from policy changes.

The message aligns with the adoption of the National Strategic Plan, highlighting a shift toward supporting smaller family farms. Emphasis will be placed on bolstering animal production, which has faced challenges from nuisance and regulatory hurdles, including AVP measures.

Deputy Prime Minister Kowalczyk is expected to unveil initiatives that simplify farming operations and expand targeted support, Czarnecki said.

A concrete proposal

He added that the agricultural law project will be announced, likened to a civil code for the countryside and agriculture, effectively a constitution for rural life. While the full code will not be presented at once, the elements it includes will be outlined, with further details anticipated in the coming months during another agricultural convention in May or possibly June, which could also serve as an election platform. Farmers are expected to welcome several of these proposals, he suggested.

Asked about the purpose behind compiling the farm code, Czarnecki stated that it should gather all farm-related legislation in one place. It will also address several long-standing issues, notably property and geodetic matters, which are notoriously complex.

These provisions are set to be clarified within the code, bringing rural and agricultural legislation together in a single framework, he emphasized.

The Polish village meeting will take place in Przysucha, Mazowieckie Voivodeship. The gathering will feature Law and Justice leader Jarosław Kaczyński, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Henryk Kowalczyk. Alongside PiS representatives and government officials, participants will include people involved in agriculture such as farmers, processors, and traders, making it a broad industry assembly. This report draws on reports from the Polish press and coverage by wPolityce at the time of the event.
