President of the People’s Party and a candidate for Elche mayor, Pablo Ruz introduced the newest addition to his plan this afternoon. The pick is Juan Francisco Martínez Modesto, known as “Nino,” who captains Elche CF and is the all-time top scorer in the silver division of Spanish football. The move aims to establish a Municipal Sports Board, to promote sport, cultivate physical culture, and guide the construction of new sports facilities. the former player brings a blend of athletic achievement and public presence to the project.
Our project
Pablo Ruz states that bringing Nino into the project adds substantial value in an area the team intends to advance. The goal is clear: advocate sport at every level, create a Municipal Sports Board, build new facilities for all, and promote sport as both a tourism element and a municipal brand. The hope is for Elche to become a recognized hub again, reestablishing organized sporting events once seen between 2011 and 2015 and beyond. The initiative envisions reviving the Nike Cup, Fair Play programs, and international tournaments across disciplines, with aims to boost local economy and the city’s profile.
Nino has also served as a public figure during Elche’s August festival, which has helped broaden his recognition beyond the sports world.

“To coordinate this effort and place Elche firmly back on the international sports map, Nino will represent multiple sports and embody shared values that unite the project—commitment, effort, and delivery,” Ruz notes.
Nino, for his part, remarks that it is an honor to join the project, with a clear objective of promoting sports and hosting events that draw families and athletes to the city. He emphasizes that the work will be carried out in collaboration with athletes and clubs to benefit Elche and all its residents.

The action of Carlos Mazón and the presence of Nino in Elche
Nino attended a campaign rally organized by Pablo Ruz and the PPCV regional president, Carlos Mazón, at a prominent location in Elche last Friday. The appearance highlighted their joint campaign efforts, with Mazón overseeing the province and having previously named Nino Adoption of Alicante in 2023 through the provincial body he leads.
The partnership signals a broader political strategy focusing on sports development and community engagement within Elche and the surrounding region.
