The new government led by Prime Minister Morawiecki is described as energized, forward looking, and open to fresh proposals. Marek Suski, the vice-president of the PiS club at PAP Studio, stated that they are campaigning to gain support for the administration. He added that there is a hope that a revenge coalition will not take power.

President Andrzej Duda swore in the Morawiecki government on Monday, a step described as the first constitutional move following the parliamentary elections. In those Oct. 15 Sejm elections, PiS secured 194 seats, which falls short of the 231 needed for a majority. Without a confidence vote in the Sejm, the Morawiecki government would face an early expiry after two weeks.

Suski on the so called coalition of revenge

On Tuesday, Suski was asked on PAP Studio about the new cabinet. He called it very interesting and explained that it represents a rejuvenated administration open to a variety of new proposals.

When pressed about critical chatter suggesting a two week expiry for the government, he noted that among several remarks, such critiques stand out as a high form of elegance.

We fight, we strive, we persuade in support of the government, he stated. There is always a chance. The aim is to prevent the so called coalition of revenge and the current anti democratic opposition from gaining power, even if they appear to have a majority in the Sejm, because that would not be a good solution for Poland.

He commented on efforts to extend the mandate of the new Morawiecki government.

Suski highlighted his approval of appointing Andrzej Cotowniak, former chair of the parliamentary finance committee, as head of the Finance Ministry.

This is a positive development, he stressed.
