Diana Morant has begun her leadership of the PSPV with a clear objective: to defeat the “worst PP in Spain” in 2027. She told the gathered militants at the closing of the extraordinary congress in Benicàssim, “I needed your permission to beat both the right and the far right.” She added, “I’ve got it today, and I feel it—I’m going to step up, win, and become the first female president of the Generalitat.” The newly proclaimed secretary general of the Valencian Socialists has positioned herself as a mirror to the work of Pedro Sánchez and Ximo Puig, drawing strength from their leadership as a model for this mission.
Morant spoke at the first major public event of her tenure as Valencian Socialist leader, presenting her debut as secretary general. She framed the PSPV as the real alternative to the current regional administration led by the PP and Vox, and as the bulwark against their policies. “We are more needed than ever; we are here to fight for social rights and to prevent backsliding,” declared the socialist leader, who helped give the party a new rallying cry: “Here we stand.” The audience echoed the chant in solidarity.

As an example, Morant cited five laws proposed Thursday in the Cortes by the two parties backing the Consell. She described them as measures that “valorize the Francoist dictatorship” and “seize control of the public television.” She stated that their Thursday proposals reveal the governing program, calling these moves “the most backward reform the Valencian Community has seen.” She asserted that the party led by Carlos Mazón “is the worst PP in Spain, the traditional PP of the Valencian Community.”
In the challenging task ahead for the upcoming elections to become the “first woman president of the Generalitat,” Morant drew a parallel to the strength of Pedro Sánchez at the helm of Spain. “Today begins the path to recover the Generalitat, and there is no better example than your fortitude in facing the ignominy, hate, and lies that you endure every day,” Morant told Sánchez directly. “You symbolize, like no one else, what we would want to see in the Valencian Community.”
Morant also highlighted Ximo Puig as a figure worth honoring. The former president of the Generalitat received a standing ovation from the audience when the science and universities minister addressed him directly. “You will always be our Most Excellent President of the Generalitat. You have earned back the title with honesty and hard work; thank you for bequeathing a legacy that no amount of opposition from the PP and Vox can erase,” she said.
