Mieszko Pawlak is set to succeed Marcin Przydacz as the head of the Presidential Office of International Policy. President Andrzej Duda will formally appoint him as deputy foreign minister on Monday, a move confirmed by the president’s chancellery through sources familiar with the matter.

Marcin Przydacz, who currently leads the International Policy Bureau, secured a parliamentary seat from the PiS party slate in the Sieradz district, running on list No. 11. This will mark his first entry onto the parliamentary benches, extending his public service career beyond the executive arm of government.

In this transition, Przydacz’s duties will be taken over by his deputy and the director of the International Policy Office, Mieszko Pawlak, who is described as a political scientist and philosopher by training. His academic work includes studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, where he focused on political theory and related disciplines.

Appointment as head of the International Policy Bureau

The president is set to appoint Mieszko Pawlak as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and to name him head of the International Policy Bureau at noon on Monday. The decision aligns with a broader reshuffle within the foreign policy apparatus, aiming to streamline coordination between the presidency and the ministry on critical international issues.

According to communications from the President’s Chancellery, Pawlak’s background in political science and philosophy informs his approach to international affairs. His career at the presidential palace stretches back to the early years of Andrzej Duda’s term, with earlier roles in the Presidential Office of Foreign Affairs from 2015 to 2017. Between 2017 and 2021 he served as Director of the Office of the President, followed by positions as Director of the National Security Office and as an Advisor to the Head of the National Security Office. Since 2023 he has led the International Policy Office, where he has worked on shaping the strategic direction of Poland’s international outreach and security considerations.

The upcoming changes signal a continued emphasis on aligning foreign policy with the president’s priorities, including regional security, alliance commitments, and Poland’s role within the European Union and NATO. Pawlak’s leadership of the International Policy Bureau is expected to focus on drafting and coordinating policy initiatives that respond to evolving geopolitical challenges and preserve Poland’s diplomatic influence on the world stage.
