La Vila Joiosa’s Socialist Party is gearing up for the upcoming municipal elections in May 2023, with the exception of mayor Marta Sellés, who will not stand for another term.
The party convened an extraordinary meeting this Sunday to shape the candidate list for the next council races. The gathering was led by the current socialist mayoral candidate, Andreu Verdú. The slate, refreshed to reflect a 35% renewal from the previous vote, features 11 men and 10 women, evenly distributed as the group fills the 21 seats that the municipality requires for representation.
Among the listed names is Isabel Perona, who currently serves as the Councilor for Citizen Security and Festivals, who will accompany the mayor in second place on the ballot. Francisco Carreres is slated to occupy third place, currently heading Cemetery, Personnel and Organization, Technical Services, and the upkeep of public roads, while also overseeing Transportation. Xente Sebastian, responsible for Education, Culture and Historical Heritage as well as Public Library and Digital Heritage matters, is placed fifth. José Ramón Ucles, who holds the Finance and Sports portfolios, is set for seventh position. Asunción Lloret, the present Councilor for Equality and Social Welfare, will take the eighth slot.
The current mayor, Agustín, who stepped into office after the January general assembly following Aina Santamaria’s resignation for personal reasons, is slated to hold the ninth position. Muñoz will oversee Youth, Industry and European Residents projects. Marta Sellés will not stand for reelection as the councilor responsible for Economic Development, Urban Cleaning and Health, and she will not appear on the ballot again.
