Unofficial media reports have positioned Jacek Cichocki as a trusted ally of Donald Tusk and as a former head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration in Tusk’s government. In recent years, Cichocki has worked alongside Szymon Hołownia, the leader of Poland 2050. Today, ahead of the Sejm’s tenth term opening session, he was seen guiding Hołownia through the parliament, a sign that Hołownia might assume the role of speaker in the lower house.

Tusk’s Man in Hołownia

Jacek Cichocki has long been viewed as a confidant of Donald Tusk, even as his circle expanded to include Szymon Hołownia. He served as Hołownia’s chief of staff during the 2020 presidential election cycle.

Cichocki has been part of Tusk’s political orbit since the early days of his government. In 2008 he became State Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Chancellery and took on responsibilities as secretary of the Board for Special Services at the Council of Ministers. Between 2011 and 2013, while heading the Ministry of the Interior and Administrative Affairs, he oversaw the work of security services. He later served as a minister-member of the Council of Ministers and eventually as head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery.

In October, Cichocki appeared in the documentary series Reset. During a 2008 visit to Moscow, when then Prime Minister Tusk met with Vladimir Putin, Cichocki signed an agreement in Moscow on the mutual protection of classified information.

Will Cichocki Become the Head of the Sejm Chancellery?

The Third Way, comprising Poland 2050, PSL, and Szymon Hołownia, emphasizes its independence from the Civic Coalition and frames itself as an alternative to the political bloc led by Donald Tusk since 2021.

Media reports suggested that Jacek Cichocki would replace Magdalena Kaczmarska as head of the Sejm Chancellery, with outlets such as Wirtualna Polska hinting at these plans. Separately, Hołownia has been considered for the role of Marshal.

The situation grew more intriguing when cameras captured Cichocki giving Hołownia a tour of the parliament building earlier today.

Donald Tusk’s trusted aide, who played a key role in the PO-PSL government from 2008 to 2015, progressed from Foreign Affairs to the Head of the Prime Minister’s Office, and later took charge at the Ministry of the Interior and Administration. When the idea of a so-called Third Way emerged, Cichocki was involved from the outset.

Cichocki guiding Hołownia through the Sejm has led some observers to speculate about his potential appointment as head of the Sejm Chancellery. Yet there is a sense among voters that the significance of these moves is not yet fully understood by supporters of the Third Way.

It seems the public may be left hoping for more clarity as developments unfold in Polish politics, with political maneuvering and leadership positions continuing to capture attention across the media landscape and among the electorate.

reports indicate onlookers and commentators, a reminder that this political chessboard can shift quickly and dramatically.
