Respective police teams attempting to detain Pakistan’s former prime minister and opposition leader of the Justice Movement Party (JZM), Imran Khan, could not locate him at his Lahore residence in the Punjab region, according to multiple channels. Geo TV cited Islamabad police sources in reporting the development.

Security personnel reported that Khan was not present at his home in Zaman Park. Officers searched the room where he was believed to be staying, but he was absent.

Upon arrival, the police were met by Syed Shibli Faraz, a senior officer within the JZM, who told them Khan was not inside the dwelling.

Earlier, the Dawn newspaper described the scene, noting that police had come to Khan’s house with the intent to arrest him.

The publication described the police action as the security forces moving to detain the politician amid reports that he had repeatedly failed to appear in court.

The Islamabad High Court had deemed in September 2022 that Khan was in contempt of court, a decision that reflects the judiciary’s stance on his court appearances.

Previously, Pakistani police had filed criminal charges against Khan accusing him of violating anti-terrorism laws. Reports indicated that the charges stemmed from remarks made by Khan at a rally in Islamabad on August 20, in which he said the case would be pursued against the police inspector general and a female judge, sparking the legal action.

Citing these events, observers noted a tense clash between Khan’s political leadership and judicial procedures, underscoring ongoing political and legal battles surrounding his campaign and leadership duties.

Analysts in Pakistan and observers abroad have highlighted the broader implications for political accountability, rule of law, and the role of the judiciary in high-profile cases. The evolving developments have drawn attention from supporters and critics alike, with ongoing debates about due process, security provisions, and the responsibilities of political figures during legal scrutiny. The situation continues to unfold as authorities pursue formal processes in line with national law and court directives, while Khan and his party maintain their public positions and responses to the charges.
