Generalitat’s tax reform: lower taxes for all income below 60,000 euros

In Valencia, the regional government unveiled a plan to ease the tax burden for residents earning up to 60,000 euros annually. The initiative, highlighted during a parliamentary session, centers on simplifying reliefs and expanding credits that target middle incomes. The aim is to provide tangible relief while maintaining fiscal balance for essential services across the Valencian Community. The plan is framed as part of ongoing reforms and aligns with broader commitments to boost household purchasing power and reduce cost pressures on families. While the details of implementation, timelines, and funding sources remain to be finalized, officials stressed that the reform would be structured to benefit a broad segment of taxpayers without creating gaps in public investment. The overarching message is one of prudent fiscal management paired with direct savings for households, particularly as inflation remains a concern for many families.

Consell’s leadership, represented by Ximo Puig, described the reform as a sustained effort to streamline tax processes while expanding reliefs for personal income. He noted that Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana, the regional transport operator, will continue to coordinate with Metrovalencia and Alicante TRAM to support mobility across Vega Baja. The current plan envisions a wider transport framework that could eventually include more frequent services in the Vega Baja region, with discussions centering on value for money and accessibility. Specific conditions for the study, including any required budget, have yet to be outlined. The proposal also mentions potential future connections, including a new line running between Denia and Gandia, as part of an integrated transport strategy.

Officials stressed that Vega Baja has not benefited from direct Generalitat-operated transport services in the same way as other areas. This means roughly 400,000 residents in the region may not experience the full impact of the announced measures immediately. However, the government highlighted a key feature: public transport—metro, tram, and bus—will be free for residents under 30 from October 9 until year-end, extending relief to a significant portion of young people. The measure is projected to benefit about 1.553 million Valencians across the Community, offering immediate relief in transit costs.

The aim is to ease daily expenses for families grappling with rising prices. By removing transport costs for younger riders, the policy seeks to boost mobility for students and young workers, while also reducing the financial strain on households with multiple dependents who rely on public transport for education, work, or daily errands. The government framed this initiative as part of a larger strategy to support household budgets during a period of inflation, stressing that the savings will accumulate as students and workers shift to more affordable travel options.

Puig emphasized that the package represents an average saving of about 135 euros per young person, highlighting a broader goal to defend family finances and soften the blow of price rises. The Generalitat Valenciana described the measure as a direct investment in social equity, promising to extend benefits to families that face higher costs in transportation, education, and daily activities. In his words, the initiative is designed to help families manage inflation more effectively while supporting students and young workers as they navigate the job market and academic commitments.
