How long will the procedure take?
Sebastian M.’s attorney, Bartosz Tiutiunik, noted that there is no clear timetable for the extradition process.
According to information available to him and the arrangements in place, the client is represented locally by a regional attorney, which aligns with protecting his legal interests. Representation in Poland is being conducted by the same attorney, and actions are ongoing in that jurisdiction. Tiutiunik added that the process continues.
Tiutiunik also recalled filing an application for a letter of safe conduct last week. In formal terms, this application remains valid as long as the client remains abroad.
He further stated that it was not known whether a hearing date had been set by the court.
Sebastian M. was detained in Dubai the previous week. Polish officers from a specialized units were involved in the arrest. He faced an arrest warrant and an Interpol red notice. He is suspected of causing a fatal crash on the A1 near Sierosław in the Łódź Voivodeship, where a family of three died and their vehicle caught fire. The arrest occurred at an airport, and it has been reported unofficially that the suspect held a German passport.
Tragic accident on the A1
Last week the Minister of Justice stated that a request for extradition to Poland from the United Arab Emirates had been signed for the 32-year-old Sebastian M., a BMW driver suspected of causing the fatal A1 crash.
– Zbigniew Ziobro shared the development on social media.
The tragic incident on the A1 near Sierosław occurred on the previous Saturday, resulting in the deaths of both parents and their 5-year-old son in a subsequent car fire. Firefighters reported that two passenger vehicles collided at the scene. Subsequent police statements indicated that a Kia vehicle initially struck energy-absorbing barriers and caught fire. Later communications clarified that a Kia and a BMW were involved in the incident.
Investigators have gathered multiple leads and interviewed witnesses. CCTV footage has been obtained to shed light on the events. The investigation aims to determine whether the behavior of the BMW driver contributed directly to the crash, as well as clarify the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.
An arrest warrant was issued for the BMW driver, and the status of Sebastian M. was clarified through the proceedings. The Polish prosecutor’s office in Piotrków Trybunalski charged him with causing a fatal accident. He was sought on a red notice from Interpol. The head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Mariusz Kamiński, announced the suspect’s detention in the United Arab Emirates on the preceding Wednesday.
