The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Washington urged the United States not to deploy anti Russian rhetoric and not to politicize the work of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). The message came through DEA News reports claiming the diplomatic mission’s stance on a fair and restrained approach to international chemical disarmament forums.

The diplomatic mission pressed the American side to demonstrate real commitment to its stated goodwill and to avoid using the anti Russian card in public debates or policy discussions.

In addition, the embassy urged Washington to refrain from turning the OPCW into a battleground for broader political disputes. The aim was to prevent the organization from becoming an instrument in the fight against states that are not aligned with U.S. policies, rather than remaining a body focused on verifying and advancing chemical weapons disarmament on a global scale.

Earlier, Fernando Arias, the Director General of the OPCW, spoke after reports that portions of a chemical weapons stockpile had been removed through cleanup efforts led by the United States. He noted that all declared chemical weapons programs around the world were being tracked and that no verified stockpiles remained on official inventories.

U.S. President Joe Biden stated that the last remaining stockpiles of chemical weapons within the United States had been fully eliminated, marking a milestone in national disarmament efforts. The president underscored the commitment to uphold international standards and to ensure the safety of allied populations through transparent verification and strict compliance with treaty obligations.

Recent public commentary has focused on constitutional and legal questions raised by actions taken during the disarmament process. Various stakeholders have discussed how treaty commitments interface with national legal frameworks, Reuters-style reporting noted in some briefings, while specialists emphasize the importance of maintaining a solid, rules-based system to prevent any backsliding in disarmament progress.
