Carlos González, a candidate for the PSOE mayoral nomination in Elche, met today with representatives from the unions UGT and CCOO to discuss key economic and workforce development strategies for the city. The dialogue focused on policy orientations that can drive growth in core sectors such as industry, technology, and tourism, underscoring the importance of targeted incentives to propel local prosperity.

In a press statement, PSOE highlighted that González emphasized the critical roles of employment and education, recognizing their potential to generate opportunities and stimulate sustained local growth.

Social dialogue

The need for ongoing, constructive social dialogue with workers, employers, and community groups was stressed to foster consensus and cooperation in decisions that affect both workers and residents.

González affirmed a commitment to stable job creation and to backing education and entrepreneurship within the city. He stated that the aim is to help freelancers and small business owners flourish, thereby creating a framework that allows Elche to continue producing stable, high-quality jobs. This will be pursued in close partnership with unions and other social actors to strengthen the city’s social dialogue.

González participated in discussions alongside representatives of Comisiones Obreras, highlighting a collaborative approach to economic policy and workforce development.

PSOE Elx’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurs was reaffirmed, with plans to bolster initiatives such as the Municipal Office for Entrepreneurship, the Elx Employment Program, and Elche Undertake. These programs will continue to provide guidance and resources to promote entrepreneurship and job creation in the city.

Additionally, the discussions covered municipal plans for youth employment activation, emphasizing hands-on training for students in city hall and municipal companies. The goal is to offer practical opportunities for young people to gain work experience and encourage their entry into the labor market.

Education for young people

In light of the potential for job placement through targeted training, the need to provide education and skill-building opportunities for young residents was highlighted. The objective is to raise employability through programs tailored to local needs and demands.

González noted the importance of aligning training with the job market so that young people can transition smoothly into meaningful work, supported by a robust network of municipal programs and public-private collaboration.

Carlos González also met with María José Martínez and Vicente Alberola from UGT to discuss how social dialogue can translate into tangible benefits for workers and families in Elche.

Technological development

The plan includes launching an Innovation Factory—an initiative to foster creativity, research, and technological advancement in Elche. The Innovation Factory will serve as a hub for collaboration among entrepreneurs, companies, and public institutions, aiming to drive innovation and create employment in strategic sectors.

PSOE proposals envision a space where new ideas can be tested, scaled, and connected to public programs that support startups and R&D projects. This effort aligns with broader regional innovation strategies and the goal of diversifying the local economy.

PSOE also pledged to deliver 300 affordable rental homes for Elche’s youth, reflecting a broader commitment to economic stability and social mobility for younger residents.

González thanked the unions for their active participation and reiterated the importance of working hand in hand with social actors to build a strong, prosperous business climate that benefits men and women across Elche.
