The panel charged with organizing the Civic Coalition primaries is designed to include three members from the Civic Platform, a single representative from KO’s allied groups, and two delegates representing the coalition’s presidential candidates, Rafał Trzaskowski and Radosław Sikorski. On November 15, the commission will draft the rules and set the final deadline for the primaries. The arrangement reflects the alliance between the governing party and its partners, ensuring a balanced voice from both sides in shaping the process and overseeing eligibility, enrollment, and execution.
During a Saturday session, the National Board of the Civic Platform indicated that KO primaries are likely to be held on November 23 using online voting. KO members from the coalition’s component parts — PO, Nowoczesna, Inicjatywa Polska and Zieloni — would select the coalition’s presidential candidate for 2025. The two leading options mentioned were the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski. The winner is slated to present their program in Silesia on December 7, offering a platform to lay out priorities and policy directions for the coalition’s campaign season.
Candidates for the committee
Candidates for the committee must be nominated by tomorrow. From the Civic Platform these will be: deputy speakers of the Sejm Dorota Niedziela and Monika Wielichowska and the head of the KO Club Zbigniew Konwiński. Nowoczesna will appoint its Secretary General, Sławomir Potapowicz, to the committee; The Greens recommend MP Klaudia Jachira, while the Polish Initiative recommends MEP Dariusz Joński. The panel will also feature representatives of the KO candidates for the presidency, Rafał Trzaskowski and Radosław Sikorski, with organizational support provided by the PO National Office to keep operations smooth and transparent.
The committee’s duties include verifying all current members of the KO component parties, confirming their contact details such as email addresses and phone numbers, and monitoring the conduct of the primaries to ensure fairness and proper procedure. It will also manage registration, resolve discrepancies, and maintain clear records of compliance throughout the process.
We’ll meet on Friday and finalize the rules
— Deputy Marshal Niedziela, who will chair the committee, indicated that a Friday gathering would be held to settle the rules that will govern the primaries.
End date of the primaries
She said November 15 is the planned end date for KO primaries, depending on how quickly member details can be verified. The timeline hinges on a smooth confirmation of each member’s information, but the working assumption remains that the process will move toward a conclusion within the window already outlined.
We initially assume it will be November 23, but more information will arrive on Friday as verification progresses.
The results of the primaries will be announced the next day, signaling the official selection of the coalition’s candidate and the beginning of the next phase of the campaign.
During the last long weekend, decisions about participation in the primaries were made by various bodies: the Nowoczesna Board of Directors, the Inicjatywa Polska Board of Directors, and the Greens National Council. These bodies chose not to field candidates in the primaries. The Polish Initiative expressed its support for Rafał Trzaskowski. The Greens proposed organizing online sessions with Trzaskowski and Sikorski so party members could pose questions to the candidates in a live format.
