CBA Earns International Recognition for Anti-Corruption Efforts in 2023

Good news travels fast in the realm of public integrity. In 2023, the Central Bureau of Anti-Corruption (CBA) garnered international recognition by receiving a prestigious award from the European Partners Against Corruption and the European Anti-Corruption Network (EPAC/EACN). The award highlighted the ABCIntegrity initiative as the standout among nine submitted programs, underscoring its role as a model of innovation and impact in the ongoing fight against corruption. The announcement was shared by Stanisław Żaryn, the Deputy Minister coordinating Secret Services, via the X platform, illustrating the project’s reach and significance across borders.

The ABCIntegrity project was selected as the best among a competitive slate, earning accolades for its originality and practical effectiveness in 2023. The EPAC/EACN award acknowledges projects that push the boundaries of anti-corruption work, combining research, policy development, and on-the-ground action to reduce bribery, enhance transparency, and promote accountability in public administration.

The initiative led by the CBA involves collaboration with multiple Polish universities through signed letters of intent. This partnership supports a broad, phased approach to promoting fairness and integrity at all levels of society. The program is designed to raise awareness, foster ethical behavior, and equip future professionals with the tools to uphold ethical standards in their careers.

According to the CBA, the winning project rests on three foundational pillars tied to different stages of human development. First, it emphasizes instilling honesty and ethics among children and youths. Second, it strengthens ties with the scientific community to ensure ideas are grounded in rigorous research. Third, it focuses on preparing final-year students entering the workforce and delivering targeted training for public sector staff and professionals in commercial law, with active involvement from the Ministry of Finance. Together, these elements aim to create a culture of integrity across education, government, and business sectors.

EPAC/EACN, also known as the European Contact Points Network against Corruption, is a collaborative platform that unites anti-corruption bodies from EU member states. Its core mission is to facilitate cooperation between scholars and practitioners working to curb corruption in public administration and to strengthen oversight of law enforcement agencies. The network serves as a bridge for sharing best practices, policy ideas, and effective mechanisms to prevent and detect corrupt behavior across borders.

Poland’s Central Anti-Corruption Bureau has been a member of EPAC since 2007, reflecting a sustained commitment to international cooperation in the fight against corruption. The award for 2023 reinforces the value of cross-border collaboration, knowledge exchange, and coordinated action in safeguarding public trust and the integrity of public institutions.
