Russian SaviorVox mayoral candidate Torrevieja At the presentation of his candidacy at a demonstration at the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Center, Torrevieja unveiled the banner for restoring the health department under a public-private management model. The campaign produced a video featuring brief statements from the people who formed the list. Yolanda Cabezuelo and Victoria Navarro arranged entry for the intervening MP Miguel Pascual and a member of the executive committee. Oscar Castillo outlined the Valencian Parliament’s priorities to support the project of restoring health to its current level through a new public administration competition and to structure parliamentary communication in Vega Baja.

Ideological differences and agreements

The candidate, known as Russian Savior, focused on clarifying the ideological and administrative differences of his project, comparing it to the current mayor and detailing resource management specifics, as the current PP represents social democracy while Vox advocates liberalism.

First, R Dolón and his spokesman in the Cortes Valencianas stated that if they govern the Generalitat, they will not reverse hospital management, unlike VOX which would impose it as a condition of an agreement so that Torrevieja Hospital remains publicly accessible. It is not envisaged that the Generalitat would be managed by a PP+PSOE coalition, and Vox would not be part of the government.

Vertebrate Vega Baja

Another differentiating point highlighted by Ruso was Vox’s project to develop Vega Baja through a consortium rail network. The aim is to connect Torrevieja with the rest of Vega Baja and Orihuela Costa, creating a transit network with a tram similar to those in Alicante or Murcia, bringing all Vega Baja municipalities into a broader system and engaging the Provincial Assembly as a participant. Vega Baja would function as a metropolitan region, with Vox candidates in Baja towns joining the project and accepting it as a central recommendation across them.

new PGOU

As another highlight, the elaboration of a new PGOU was discussed, since the current plan is 37 years old and Torrevieja has accumulated fragmented urban impulses with insufficient communication and services. Vox positions that the instrument to address this urban fragmentation over the past five decades is the drafting of a new PGOU guided by a model of congruent urbanism, ensuring that some gains made by developers are reinvested in direct, public benefits for the city.

In his remarks, Ruso also spoke about creating underground parking in the center and along the seafront through an administrative concession. This would ease city parking, while offering special discounts to shoppers in the central Torrevieja area.

He closed his speech with the idea of creating a spa, a cosmetics sector, and a third pharmaceutical industry within a public-private partnership framework using the pink lagoon resource. He suggested the University of Madrid host a chair of medical hydrology in Torrevieja to foster not only expertise but also research and development laboratories, thereby linking economic resources with ongoing municipal services aimed at reducing personnel and municipal taxes (IBI, IAE, ICIO) while expediting the legalization of migrants settling in Torrevieja.

Audit

Ruso called for auditing the city council’s accounting and personnel to ensure services align with expenditures and to repurpose many currently closed public buildings. He argued that when facing a PP that repeats the same proposals every four years and has left many initiatives unimplemented in 35 years, the commitment is to deliver them in a single legislature.

Issues with given space and day

The event took place on Sunday, May 7, which coincides with Mother’s Day. Acknowledging the importance of the day, the organizers chose the single day offered by the City Council and invited families to bring their children. Vox Torrevieja, accompanied by a troupe of storytellers, arranged snacks including water, juices, and sweets for the youngsters.
