During a Sejm session on Thursday, KO MP Borys Budka claimed that lobbying for Orlen was the most extensive in history. PiS MP Łukasz Schreiber responded by saying Budka accused the government of prioritizing Polish companies.

Budka’s bold accusations

Today a key point must be clarified. Earlier the interim minister approved a plan by Orlen and other firms, despite negative recommendations from the Internal Security Agency. Mariusz Kamiński publicly addressed unfounded charges against the internal security body and noted unprecedented lobbying for Orlen.

This is how Budka, a Civic Coalition MP and head of the KO Parliamentary Club, described the situation on Thursday in the Sejm.

He added that Kamiński, who was part of the Mateusz Morawiecki cabinet, stated that the investment being vigorously pushed forward by the administration could threaten Polish security and interests.

What is observed, he argued, is pressure on the agency. The agency’s statements, along with its actions, are being questioned by members of the board of directors at the state owned enterprise.

Beneath it all, Budka warned that Polish services publicly speak of risks to national interests, Kamiński confirms this, yet Orlen’s subsidiary continues with its investment plans. He questioned whether political protection for Obajtek and Burak may be tied to tens of thousands of zlotys paid to party members by Orlen board members.

He posed the question directly.

“You deserve an order…”

Law and Justice MP Łukasz Schreiber answered Budka’s remarks in kind.

One should receive an order, a world championship, he quipped, noting that during the same session Budka appeared to be drafting a lobbying bill for German firms while criticizing the government for supporting Polish companies and state enterprises.

Schreiber stated that in the session the Ministry of Climate and Environment announced six fundamental approvals for building six nuclear energy facilities using the BWRX-30 technology by Orlen Synthos Green Energy. He emphasized that the key decision requires the Homeland Security Service’s input. Media reports claimed the ABW had a negative view of the OSGE projects. This stance was echoed by former Interior Minister Mariusz Kamiński, who asserted that the internal security service believed the investments by the company were not aligned with the interests of the Finance Ministry, including Orlen.
